TECHNOLOGIES | Data Format & Representation
Since one of the primary goals of the Titan Data Vault technology
was to backup a variety of system architectures, a standard method had to
be developed to store and represent data in a format that could be restored
on another system with all security, alternate data streams, and file system
attributes intact. This standard, SIDF (System Independent Data Format), was
adopted by Titan Data Vault and serves as the primary method by which to store
data from a variety of operating systems on a single Titan Data Vault server.
Titan Data Vault is on the SIDF committee which has representation from Novell,
Cheyenne, Legato, Seagate and others in the mid-range backup world.
