TECHNOLOGIES | Deferred Backup
In some cases it is not practical to take the first backup on tape as described under the "seed tape" section - the system may not even have a tape drive ! In these cases the backup task can be set up to have a maximum elapsed time. If the backup window available is 6 hours for example, then setting the defer backup after 6 hours will cause the Titan Data Vault Agent to backup as much data as possible in the 6 hour period of each backup. As long as the total quantity of data is not too large the process should take 4 - 10 days to send 10GB over an ISDN line. The variable length of time is based on the rate of change of the data and the effective compression ratio achieved by the Delta Processing algorithm.
