The retention options in the system from the Titan Data Vault client perspective are; Online - in days or copies/generations, and Archive - in days. The Titan Data Vault Server always keeps the first generation of any backup on a RAID configuration. Second and subsequent online generations are maintained on-line or archived off-line for long term storage (>1yr). Archive generations are copied from on-line storage to offline storage based on client specified parameters.

The Server will ALWAYS maintain at least one generation of a client's backup online regardless of the retention settings on the client system. A client must call the operator of the Titan Data Vault Server system to request purging of out-dated or un-used backup safesets.
